A test ladder turns an open-ended engraving session into a sequence of answerable questions. Start with an identified practice blank, a saved artwork version, and one setup based on current operating guidance. For each following sample, change only the factor you intend to study.
Name every rung
Label each step with the date, artwork revision, material description, and the single change. Photograph the result beside its label under consistent light. If two or more conditions change together, mark that rung inconclusive instead of forcing a lesson from it.
Stop before the ladder becomes a promise
A ladder can organize observations from the recorded samples; it cannot establish universal compatibility, durability, production speed, or a guaranteed result. New material batches and finishes still need their own review.
Confirm material identity, focus, positioning, shielding, ventilation, and attended operation before each run. Stop when current guidance or the material description is unclear.
