Surface residue can change how a sample looks in a photograph. Record the sample before and after an appropriate cleaning step so reviewers can distinguish immediate appearance from the documented final view.
Keep the conditions visible
Use the same camera position, light direction, and background for both images. Label each frame rather than relying on file order. Note the identified material and finish, but do not treat visual similarity as proof that two blanks behave the same.
Choose cleaning guidance carefully
Only use a cleaning method that is suitable for the known material and consistent with current supplier guidance. If the material or coating is uncertain, stop and identify it before proceeding. A photo comparison is not a compatibility or durability test.
Store both images with the artwork revision and setup notes. This gives later reviewers context while keeping conclusions narrow: the record shows visible change under stated conditions, not a guaranteed result.
