A small orientation check can prevent a useful test from becoming hard to interpret. Before starting, add a visible top edge, centerline, or reference corner to the artwork and the test blank.
Make direction part of the file
Save the orientation mark on a non-output layer or in the setup notes. Photograph the blank in position, then compare that photo with the artwork preview. This gives the reviewer a clear record of how the design was intended to sit.
Review placement before appearance
After the test, first ask whether the design landed in the intended direction and location. Only then evaluate contrast, detail, or surface appearance. Separating those questions makes revisions easier to explain.
Material identity, current operating guidance, focus, shielding, ventilation, and attended operation still need to be confirmed for every setup. Previous settings are starting notes, not guarantees.
