When a sample looks misplaced, changing both the artwork size and its position makes the next result harder to interpret. Save one artwork version with a fixed bounding box before adjusting placement.
Record the file name, orientation, and the edge used for reference. Change one placement decision at a time, then photograph the blank from the same camera position. The goal is not to guarantee a result; it is to leave a readable trail between versions.
