Wood samples can be difficult to compare when grain direction is missing from the record. Add a small arrow outside the intended design area and photograph it with the finished sample.
Document rather than generalize
Record the identified wood or product description, visible surface condition, artwork orientation, and grain arrow. Keep supplier information with the sample when available. One piece cannot establish how every piece from the same label will behave.
Review legibility in context
Compare fine lines and filled areas under consistent lighting, then note whether the grain competes with the artwork visually. That observation can guide the next test, but it is not a material guarantee or a reason to skip current operating guidance.
Before any work, confirm material identity, focus, positioning, shielding, ventilation, and attended operation. Unknown or unsuitable materials should not enter the test queue. Keep conclusions attached to the recorded sample instead of turning them into broad claims.
