Give each observation a reference
When documenting a new material sample, keep one clearly marked control swatch beside it. Photograph both from the same angle and write down what changed in the artwork, surface preparation, or review plan.
The point is not to promise a universal result. Different materials and finishes need their own careful evaluation. A control swatch simply makes an early observation easier to compare later, instead of relying on memory alone.
Record what remains uncertain
Include a note for unanswered questions: visibility at normal viewing distance, edge behavior, or whether another preview is needed. A useful sample log states what was seen and what still requires review.
