A rejected sample can explain more than a final selection when its place in the test sequence is preserved. Removing it may hide the decision that led to the next controlled test.
Record why the sample stopped
Give each sample a simple identifier and photograph it in sequence. Note only visible observations, such as weak contrast, unwanted surface change, unclear detail, or a reason the operator stopped. Do not relabel an observation as a verified material capability.
When a later sample is preferred, write the review reason beside both records. Keep material batch information and setup notes attached where available. Results remain specific to those conditions, so a future batch or revised design should begin with appropriate review and testing rather than an assumed repeat.
