Pair the image with a short surface note

A sample photo is more useful when it has a nearby note describing the blank, the artwork version, and the reason for the test. Keep the note factual and short: it should help you find the right comparison, not make a broad promise about every object of that type.

Use the same note format for every early sample. Consistent labels make it easier to see whether you are comparing artwork changes, surface changes, or both.

Preserve open questions

If a sample raises a question, record the question alongside the photo instead of guessing at a conclusion. That creates a calmer next-step list and leaves room for a later physical review.
