Define the state in visible terms
The work area is orderly, the intended file and object are identified, required controls are in place, and operation has not begun. The operator can still stop and resolve a question without trying to preserve momentum.
Name the reasons to return
Unexpected material information, uncertain placement, a changed file, an unclear focus check, missing ventilation, missing guarding, or any interruption should trigger a return to the defined state. Never continue solely because a sample or deadline is waiting.
Make restart a fresh decision
After the issue is resolved, repeat the relevant checks rather than resuming from memory. Keep operation attended and follow current instructions for protective equipment, shielding, ventilation, and compatible materials. Local rules and the official manual take priority over a general checklist.
