Orientation belongs in the sample record
A material note is more useful when it says how the piece was oriented during the review. Mark one edge or corner before photographing it, then keep that mark in the sample record. The mark helps a later reviewer identify the same side without guessing.
Pair the orientation note with the artwork version and a plain description of the surface. Avoid turning one sample into a blanket material promise. The record should describe a specific observation, not certify an outcome for every object of that kind.
Make the next comparison easier
Use the same label position across a small sample set. Consistency lets you compare photos, previews, and notes without rebuilding the context from scratch.
