An object with an unknown material or coating needs a visible hold state before it reaches an active engraving setup. A job card can make that decision easy to see.
A practical check
Add fields for object identity, supplier information, coating information and the person responsible for the decision. If a field needed for safe assessment is missing, mark the job on hold and keep the object separate from approved work. Do not infer safety from a similar looking object.
Keep the decision traceable
Review the applicable machine instructions, material guidance, ventilation and supervision requirements before any approved test. If new information changes the assessment, record who reopened the job and what evidence they used.
