An unlabeled coating is a reason to pause a sample decision, not a reason to make up a material category. A clear hold label protects the record from becoming more certain than the information available.
Separate unidentified blanks early
Put an unknown blank in a tray or envelope marked with its source, visible condition and the fact that its coating is unconfirmed. Keep it apart from samples whose material description is documented. A photograph can preserve the appearance, but it cannot reveal every property of a surface.
Ask the supplier or owner for the original material information where possible. If it remains unavailable, leave the field unresolved and decide whether a documented, appropriate evaluation is needed before the blank is offered for a project.
Do not convert a hold into a performance promise
A hold record does not mean the sample is compatible, incompatible, safe to process or representative of another item. It simply prevents an unknown from being presented as established knowledge.
For an AntBelt G1 planning file, retain the hold label and source note with the sample photograph. The hero is an explanatory sample-board image, not proof about a specific coating.
