Two blanks that look alike may come from different batches or carry different surface finishes. Numbering sample groups before a test keeps observations attached to the objects that produced them.
Create a batch card
Record the purchase or source date, supplier description, visible finish, and a simple batch code. Photograph the card beside the unprocessed samples. Do not treat a supplier label as proof of exact composition; obtain reliable material information and confirm suitability through the appropriate channel.
Compare within clear boundaries
Keep artwork and the documented setup consistent when the goal is to observe surface differences. Note readability, visible surface change, and any reason a sample should be excluded. A small test does not establish durability, safety, or performance for every item carrying the same product name.
Follow current operating instructions, including material compatibility, guarding, ventilation, protective equipment, and attended use. Stop when identity or suitability is uncertain.
