Surface contrast can look different when the light moves. Add a simple note such as front light, side light, or window light to every sample photo before comparing it with another image.
The note does not turn a photo into a controlled material test, but it prevents lighting changes from being mistaken for confirmed process differences. Keep the original object and setup notes beside the images too.
