A monogram on a handled cylinder has more than one “front.” The handle, seam and the way a person holds the object all affect what they see first. Mark those landmarks on a paper wrap before settling on a design position.
Draw the viewing path first
Wrap a plain paper band around the object and draw the handle and seam positions. Add two arrows for the likely left- and right-hand views. Then place the monogram on the paper instead of guessing from a flat screen.
This small exercise helps reveal whether a decorative border will run into a visual interruption or whether initials will face away from the intended reader. It also makes the intended orientation clear to anyone reviewing the artwork later.
Treat the wrap as an artwork note
