When only the finished sample is photographed, surface variation can be mistaken for a process effect. Photograph the blank first under neutral light and keep that image beside the result.
Use the same sample ID in both frames and note visible coating, grain, scratches, or color variation without guessing at composition. If the material source or finish is uncertain, record the uncertainty instead of assigning a confident label.
