A sample card labeled only with a material name can hide an important distinction: which face was tested. If the two sides differ, a result on one side should not become an instruction for the other.
Describe the face without guessing its makeup
Before testing, photograph both faces and assign neutral identifiers such as face A and face B in the record. Note any supplier identification separately. A glossy appearance alone does not identify a coating.
Confirm suitability for the intended laser workflow using reliable material information and current guidance. If that information is missing, keep the item out of the test queue.
Tie the result to that face
Record which face received the mark and which photograph shows it. Keep the orientation reference in the paperwork or storage arrangement; do not add an unverified sticker or coating to the processing area.
When comparing samples, compare like-labeled faces and record any relevant differences. If the reverse side has not been tested, say so directly rather than leaving the reader to assume both were checked.
