Stepping away should begin only after work has stopped and the area has been returned to a known state. Use a short reset card: operation ended, system made safe under current guidance, sample removed when appropriate, debris addressed, tools returned, and the next-use status posted.
Make unresolved conditions visible
If a material, fixture, ventilation issue, unusual observation, or maintenance question needs review, label the station unavailable. Name the issue and owner without inviting the next user to diagnose it by trial. Never use a tidy surface as proof that the equipment is ready.
Start again from the beginning
The next operator should perform the normal pre-use checks rather than inheriting assumptions from the reset card. Confirm the identified material, focus, secure positioning, shielding, ventilation, clear work area, and attended operation under current documentation.
A bench reset is a handoff control, not a substitute for training, safety documentation, supervision, or machine-specific procedures. Its job is to prevent an unfinished condition from becoming invisible when one person leaves and another arrives.
