Separate Surface Notes From Artwork Notes in a Test

Give each observation its own field

On a sample record, write surface observations separately from artwork observations. A mark may look different because of the source design, the blank, lighting, or an unknown variable; separate notes make that uncertainty easier to revisit.

For example, one field can describe the artwork version while another describes what was visible on the specific sample. This does not prove a general result across materials.

Decide the next question before another test

After reviewing the record, choose one question for the next sample rather than changing many things at once. A focused comparison can be easier to inspect and explain to a teammate or customer.
