A custom-order queue becomes less ambiguous when each item is grouped by its next decision rather than by its arrival time alone. Separate items awaiting artwork, customer review, preparation, or a question from the customer.

Use a short status vocabulary

Choose labels the whole shop can read quickly. A status should tell the next operator what to review, not suggest a delivery date, production capacity, or finished result.

Add the order reference and the current artwork version to the same row. That makes a handoff easier to check before any work begins. Find related workflow notes in /updates/.
