Coated blanks can look different before any work begins. Keep one unprocessed piece or an untouched area beside the test sample so the original color, sheen, and surface variation remain visible during review.
Photograph the comparison together
Place the control and test under the same light with labels in frame. Record the supplier description, batch or purchase reference when available, artwork revision, and date. Avoid relying on color balance from separate photos.
Limit the conclusion
The control can show visible contrast for the recorded pair. It does not prove coating composition, durability, suitability across batches, or a guaranteed outcome. Do not treat a visual match as material identification.
Only test an identified material when current guidance supports the process. Confirm focus, secure positioning, shielding, ventilation, and attended operation. If the coating or substrate is uncertain, stop and obtain reliable information first.
