When trying a new sample material, keep one unmarked control swatch beside the tested piece. The pair makes it easier to describe what changed without guessing from memory or from a different lighting condition.

Label both pieces with the material source, date, and the purpose of the comparison. Treat each observation as a sample note rather than a material guarantee. Safe handling, ventilation, and suitability should be confirmed before any engraving workflow.
