A partly finished order should not depend on the next operator reconstructing what happened. Attach a simple handoff card with the order identifier, completed step, next required check, and reason the work stopped.
Record observable state
Write “sample reviewed” only when the sample and review record can be found. If the artwork, blank, or settings still need confirmation, say so directly. Avoid vague labels such as “almost done” that hide the remaining decision.
Restart from a checkpoint
The next operator should verify the current file and object against the card before resuming. Any unexplained mismatch sends the job back to review. This small pause can be less expensive than repeating a personalized item.
