Replacing a test blank can change the meaning of a comparison. Even if the new piece looks similar, give it a separate specimen record before treating it as part of an AntBelt G1 sample review.
Preserve the reason for replacement
Keep the original specimen reference and note why it was replaced. Record the replacement source and known material information independently. Do not copy a known coating or preparation history from the old record unless that information actually applies to the new piece.
If the replacement's suitability is uncertain, pause processing and resolve the material question using current guidance. Similar appearance does not establish the same composition or safe use.
Keep observations attached to their specimens
Store photos and notes under the reference for the piece actually shown. When presenting two examples, state that one is a replacement rather than implying a controlled repeat. If several factors changed, list them and avoid attributing a visual difference to just one factor. The goal is an honest sample record that remains useful when the project is revisited.
