Use Raking Light to Review Surface Detail

A straight-on photo can hide shallow texture and glare. Add a second review photo with light arriving from the side, often called raking light, while keeping the camera position and sample orientation recorded. The two views can reveal different visual details.

Use the lighting change for observation, not measurement. Camera exposure, surface finish, and viewing angle can all change the appearance, so avoid treating a photo as proof of depth, durability, or material compatibility.

Label both images with the same sample reference and note the lighting direction. That makes the comparison easier to revisit alongside other examples in /updates/.
