Photograph the context as well as the mark
An early material sample is easier to discuss when it has three views: the full blank, the marked area, and a close view of the detail. Those images describe one sample, not a blanket material guarantee.
Keep the sample label in the record
Add the material name as supplied, the date, and any setup notes you can verify. If something is unknown, leave it unknown instead of filling the gap with an estimate. Browse /updates/ for more sample-record methods.
