Before reviewing a material sample, write the question it is meant to answer on a reference card. It may be a visibility, placement, or artwork question. This gives a later observation context without turning one result into a broad material claim.
Photograph the card with the sample
Keep the card in the first record photo, then note anything that cannot be concluded from the test. Small comparisons are more useful when their limits remain visible.
